How to reach
By Train
The Railway Station nearest to Yelagiri is the Jolarpet Railway Station, approximately 19 kms from the hill station. It is a centrally located station to most trains that are south bound, so you could embark at Jolarpet and travel to Yelagiri by road. Cabs and buses are available in plentiful to help you complete the rest of the journey. Most trains from Bangalore, Chennai and Coimbatore too stop at Jolarpet Junction, like Kovai Express, Brindavan Express and Intercity. The journey takes roughly 4 hours from Chennai and less than that from Bangalore. Jolarpettai (one can alight at Jolarpet and take a cab or go to Tirupattur and then go to Yelagiri)
Yelagiri Hills is also accessible by train. Many trains stop at Jolarpet and from there, one could hire a cab to reach Yelagiri. The ideal thing to do is arrange for pickup transportation with Hotel Hills. They charge Rs. 80100 per head one way and that's a lot better than breaking your head haggling with the cabbie. Frequent buses come and go from Thirupathur and Jolarpet at the foothills
By Air
The two airports nearest to Yelagiri are at Chennai (260 km) and Bangalore (180 km). Both airports have international stature and are connected to various parts of the world, besides being linked to the rest of the country. Chennai Airport is 220 km away and Bangalore Airport is 160 km away.
By Road
The buses from Chennai, Salem, Hosur, Bangalore but a bus journey will eat into a major part of your day. Driving or taking the train is advisable. Because of its proximity to both Chennai and Bangalore, Yelagiri is well connected by road. It is close to the NH 46 & SH roads that link it to several key cities. If you happen to alight at Jolarpet, there are several buses from the railway station and from Tirupattur that take you to Yelagiri. The bus we caught had a pathetic top speed of 30 km/hr and took an exhausting 7 hrs to cross the 250 kilometers to Tirupattur (via Vellore, Walaja, Vaniyambadi, Jolarpet and Tirupattur). While public transport adds to your convenience, what is recommended by most tourists is that you make it to Yelagiri by your own transport, be it a 2wheeler or a 4wheeler. You can also take a private cab or auto from Jolarpet. We caught a bus to Tirupattur at the Koyambedu bus stand.
