Fourteen hairpin bends and about half hour or so of driving uphill, you are in Athanur town. Hotel Hills is on the right side of that same main road (after the Yelagiri Hills police Station).
Take extreme caution while driving on the 4lane expressways. It's not uncommon to see cyclists, twowheelers or even cars and other vehicles coming towards you on the wrong side of the road.
Yelagiri Hills is also accessible by train. Many trains stop at Jolarpet and from there, one could hire a cab to reach Yelagiri. The ideal thing to do is arrange for pickup transportation with Hotel Hills. They charge Rs. 80-100 per head one way and that's a lot better than breaking your head haggling with the cabbie. Frequent buses come and go from Thirupathur and Jolarpet at the foothills
You can get buses from Chennai, Salem, Hosur, Bangalore but a bus journey will eat into a major part of your day. Driving or taking the train is advisable.
There are many hotels and guest houses in Yelagiri. Hotels and resorts apart, the YMCA also offers dormitory accommodation in Yelagiri. If you look around you can also find a few home stays though these are unlikely to be listed online.

Athnavur is the place to stay. There are no hotels elsewhere. Yelagiri Hills is still far from being a most sought after holiday destination. Despite all the noise made by the Tamilnadu Government to popularize the Hills as a holiday spot, if Yelagiri Hills has had some semblance of success, it's due to the efforts of private parties and certainly not any government.
There must be around 20-30 places offering accommodation. Many call themselves 'resorts' but in actual fact, the accommodation and facilities on offer are abysmal. Hygiene, cleanliness of lodgings and food leave a lot to be desired.
