Punganoor Lake
The Punganoor Lake is the main attraction in Yelagiri. Though it is an artificial lake, tourists can enjoy boating either in a rowboat or a pedal boat. Apart from the scenic surroundings, there is a Mughal Garden around the lake with interesting play equipment for kids too. This is a small lake that not only looks good from the banks, but also lets you indulge in some boating. Both pedal and row boats are available for your use.
It is a man made lake which is created artificially so as to enhance the beauty of the place and attract the tourists so as to have better place for the people to visit and keep the life going as several people here rely on it for livelihood as it has been a tourist junction for years together. The periphery of the lake is around 57 Sq meters and is a best place for boating and rowing. There is a beautiful flori culture garden in the neighbourhood where people can rest a while enjoying the beauty of the lake on one side. There is an open space for birds where different species of birds come to have their feed. In all, it is a wonderful place for all those who have loved nature to the core of their heart. Perhaps the most popular landmark of Yelagiri Hills is the lake. Ask anyone, and they'll tell you where it's located. For want of anything else to do, most visitors to the Hills tend to take the short walk from their lodgings and perhaps, go on a boat ride. The park adjoins the lake and is an ideal outing for kids to play around. Picnicking isn't allowed inside the premises. Also, there's an entry fee to be paid to enter the lake and park. Worth it, simply because it helps pass time and kids can have fun too. Yet another lake that is enchanting and peaceful. Punganur Lake is an artificial lake that invites you to spend a leisurely hour or two boating. The other option is just to walk around in the gardens nearby. You can also climb a small watch tower that is constructed next to a tree or walk along a bridge connecting the pathway that goes around the lake. Kids have another option - a park nearby where they can play. And as you lose yourself to the magic of the lake, you will stumble upon yet another treasure right in the center of it - an artificial fountain that will make the scene seem even more ethereal. Now you know why this is the most popular landmark in Yelagiri. It is one of the most enjoyable places on the hill. It is adjacent to the lake and well maintained with children play materials, flowering plants, etc., on the other side of the lake paran is constructed for adventurous children to try with. The lake is spread over 56.706 Sqm. It has the water storage capacity of 4.88 Million cubic feet and the depth on 10to 20 feet. Around the lake, there is a well cemented footpath of 1 km distance to have a pleasant walk. Park Open hours 6.00 AM to 6.00 PM Entry fee Rs.3/- Only. Boating for 30 minutes Row Boat Rs. 15/- for Adult, Rs.10/- for childrens Paddle Boat Rs.25/- for 30 Minutes. Boating On Punganur LakeThis is an artificial lake,excavated in an area of 57 sq.meters. The Elagiri Hills Development and Tourism Promotion Society runs the Boat Club,with Pedaling and rowing boats.There is a newly laid flori cultural garden with a pathway along the bund with a panoramic view of the lake on one side and the garden on the other. A connecting bridge leads the pathway around the lake.
