Shandy - Shopping
Yelagiri is a predominantly rural area and agriculture in the main occupation for people living here. As such, there are not many things available from a shoppers' perspective. Tourists can buy the local honey and Jackfruit.
Reach out for your shopping bags and fruit baskets before you visit the Shandy - this is where the produce from the hills, like Jackfruit, guavas and mangoes are sold.
A colourful shandy with a distinct rural flavour assembles every Friday on the main road in Athanavur. Produce from the plains, including vegetables, jaggery and pottery, jostle for space with hill-grown produce. At the weekly shandy the products of the hills viz., Jack fruits, Suppottas, Guavas, Mangoes are on display and sale. The main road also has several lodging houses, including the Yatri Nivas.
