The experience was wonderful and relaxing. The trek route was peaceful, clean and green, absolute silence almost all the way in the forest - you can hear only the occasional bird chirps (see the video below), that’s all. It took us less than 2:30 Hours to complete the trek & return.

We started trekking yelagiri at 12.30. There is a hill called Swamy malai in Yelagiri. WOW!! What a place is this!!! Very nice. We all were so tired when climbing up.

Nuthin much to do while at Yelagiri .... You can chill out at a resort there or try to sweat it out climbing Swamimalai (the highest peak there), take a boat ride on the Punganoor lake and catch Jaladamparai waterfalls on the way back. (Jaladhamparai is located about 16 kms from Tiruppatur on road .... but there apparently is a trek route from Yelagiri to this place!)

Yelagiri is a small hill station near Tirupattur / Vaniyambadi in Vellore District, about 150 Kms from Bangalore and 220 from Chennai. Not very well known, with very little to see or do, it is nevertheless getting increasing crowd from Bangalore and Chennai due to it being just off the 4 lane Golden Quadrilateral route. Quite a few hotels have come up in recent years although no fancy ones.

We started from the Tourist Information Center at Athanavur (Yelagiri) at about 7:45 AM and drove by car up to the village Puthur (about 8 km). After parking the car there, we started trekking at about 8:10 AM. As no tourists reportedly came forward to take this arduous trekking route in the last few months, Mr Sivalingam came forearmed with a sickle to clear any wild growth along the trekking route.

From there v caught a bus to Hosur, from Hosur v boarded a direct bus to Tirupattur.
